Sandy’s Housecleaning Story
Hi, I’m Judith, owner of Sunny Day Housecleaning Service. Over the years, I’ve heard plenty of stories from my cleaning customers about their housecleaning challenges. One of those people, I’ll call her Sandy, gave me permission to share her story of moving from housecleaning headaches to household harmony….
One day I got a call from Sandy for a phone estimate. I gave her the estimate and we set up a meeting for the following Saturday morning. After Sandy showed me her North Seattle home, we sat down and talked about her needs. Sandy shared her frustrations with keeping her home clean. She also talked about her experiences with a couple of housecleaning services prior to calling Sunny Day Housecleaning Service.
Sandy began with how she and her husband, Jack, both worked full time and traveled for business. When they were both home, they were overwhelmed with all they had to do. She said in the beginning they tried taking turns with household chores. That only worked to a point.
“Sometimes we ended up arguing over whose turn it was to do the bathroom. Both of us were trying to duck out of that chore”, laughed Sandy.
After months of arguments, they knew they needed help. Sandy said, “if someone else could just take care of the bathroom, kitchen, dusting and vacuuming, I knew we could keep the house up between cleanings.”
Getting Cleaning Help?
Sandy turned to a family friend for cleaning help. Sandy said the biggest problem with the family friend is that she cleaned on a random schedule. They rarely knew when she was going to show up. The family friend eventually stopped showing up. When Sandy called to find out what happened, the family friend said she’d found work elsewhere. Sandy said, “there was no notice, not even a courtesy call.”
Next, Sandy tried a large cleaning service . According to Sandy, they started out well. However, hope turned to disappointment when Sandy started noticing how the new cleaning company was missing basic things like not emptying the trash or ignoring the window over the kitchen sink. Often the dusting was hit or miss. Frustration outweighed satisfaction. “Jack and I work hard for our money. With that company, we just didn’t feel we were getting our money’s worth” Sandy said.
A Personalized Cleaning Plan That Works
Sandy and I worked out a personalized cleaning plan that covered the basics of scrubbing the bathroom and kitchen, dusting and vacuuming. There were also tasks that were important to Sandy such as oiling certain pieces of wood furniture, vacuuming chairs and sofas and special attention to kitchen counter top appliances.
With a regular two week schedule of care for their home (especially the kitchen and bathrooms), Sandy and Jack were finally able to keep the house up between cleaning visits. Sandy shared what she liked best about her personalized cleaning plan: “I like the attention to details. Everything on counter tops is moved and cleaned. The entire counter top is cleaned. Even the kitchen trash containers are washed.”
Beyond the cleaning plan, Sandy also liked how the service made uncertainty a thing of the past. “Jack and I really like how you remind us of the next cleaning by email. No guessing about when you are coming next. We can depend on your coming on the same cleaning days month after month,” Sandy said.
For Sandy, the results were the most fun. “I love coming home on cleaning day because the house feels re-set each time it’s cleaned. Best of all, no more arguing over whose turn it is to do the bathroom!” Sandy beamed.
That was nearly a dozen years ago. Since then, Sandy and Jack have welcomed two new family members. Their needs have changed over the years and the cleaning plan has changed to meet their needs.
What stayed the same was cleaning that’s consistent and dependable. Cleaning that released Sandy and Jack from constant arguments and frustration. An end to their cleaning conflict.
